First Day!

Hello all,

It has been a busy day. We arrived in Selkirk around lunch time and had another good look at the survey area. We have had to be quite strategic about what areas we cover due to crops and the length of the grass in some places, however lots to do and plenty of places to survey. We have our surveyor Fiona Jackson from GUARD Ltd and Justin Smith, a postgradate military history student who has done some battlefield archaeology modules with us within our MLitt programme.

This evening we had our Volunteer Training evening which was an opportunity to meet our volunteers as a group and to go over in more detail how we are going to go about investigating the battlefield. So far we have approximately 30 volunteers with around 12 - 15 people helping out each day. A couple of people brought with them artefacts they had recovered from the battlefield such as musket balls, pistol balls, coins, buttons and buckles.

Early start tomorrow with the first day of the metal detecting survey. Looking forward to seeing what we get. Will keep you posted!

All the best,

Tasha
